Under 14’s Report

Mowden Park 0 - 24 Acklam

Acklam under 14's went to Mowden Park after a full days paintballing the previous day and showed no signs of tiredness. The first half was dominated by Mowden early on, who threw all sorts at Acklam but good solid last ditch defending by Acklam kept Mowden out. This shook the lads and they started to play resulting in Lloyd rook going over to score after good forward pressure. The first half ended Mowden Park 0 Acklam 5.

In the second half Acklam started the better and Lloyd Wilson went on a cross field run then along the line to score in the corner. Ben Dickinson then tore down the line but good hard defending from Mowden put him into touch 5 metres from the line. From the resulting Mowden Park line out Danny Haggarth stole the ball at first man and charged through to score (con James Howard). Following an Acklam maul Liam McIvor (scrum half) picked up and spotted a big gap left by Mowden fly half, to charge forward past three players to score under the posts (con James Howard). The game ended Mowden 0 Acklam 24, a good hard game of rugby played in good spirits by both teams and a nice way to end the season.

Under 13’s Report

 Acklam 41 5 Mowden Park

The Acklam boys went into to-day's match fired up and determined to win. Using moves practiced with the Newcastle Falcons during a training session held at Acklam last week, meant forwards and backs connected well throughout the game.

Tries scored by Adam Gill, Chris Nicholson X5 and Tom Clarke (converted x3) Superb display of camaraderie in another convincing win

Under 15’s Report

Acklam 34 v 5 Houghton

Coach (Alan Francis) reported that this was an even ‘forwards’ contest with Horden winning good luck balls. He was very please with the full team effort by all the lads and felt the ‘backs’ put Houghton under a lot of pressure. Acklam played an excellent game of rugby and this was reflected in the score. Acklam 34-5 Houghton. Acklam scorers today were: Liam Corcoran two tries, Ben Sanderson two tries (scoring his first for Acklam not happy with that went on to get his second to) Ben Forbes one try Jack Docherty one try, Sean Bennett converting twice, Tom Frances scored an excellent try but it was disallowed due to over celebration from the Acklam lads! Two players to mention whose game was outstanding were Jack Docherty and Charlie Smith, but that said it was an all round team effort today.

U14's Report.

Acklam 15 - 12 Percy Park

Percy Park came to Acklam with 13 players due to injuries so a special mention to Jason Harrison, Jamie Godwin, Ryan Cooper and Danny Haggarth who played a half each for them. The game was controlled from the start by the forwards. Percy Park were strong in the scrum but Acklam batted away all over the field, then a break by Percy Park and good hands and running allowed them to score which they converted to end the half 0-7 to Percy Park.
The second half was much the same as the first with both sides battling well; then came a mad 10 minutes with Lloyd Wilson getting the ball and tearing down the wing to score 5-7. From the kick off he did the same again making the score 10-7. Acklam were now on the up and when Percy Park kicked off it was Lloyd again who charged down the wing but this time was denied his hat-trick by good defending, but good back up from Ben Dickinson saw him pick up and go over for 15-7. However Percy Park attacked from the kick off and scored in the corner to make it 15-12 at the final whistle.
A good game enjoyed by both sets of supporters and a very hard physical one for both sides.

U13's Report.

Acklam 41 – 5 Billingham

After a long Easter break, the Acklam U13s returned to action with a convincing win over a lacklustre Billingham side. Rory Smith grabbed two early tries and Chris Nicholson made it 15 – 0 at half time. After the restart, Chris scored another try, which was converted by Tom Clarke. Josh Clough eventually managed to find the try line to score for Acklam before they allowed Billingham a consolation try. Chris scored another try before Rory Smith picked up a cross-field kick from Tom Clarke’s 22 drop out and sprinted over the line – both tries being converted by Tom.

U9's Report.

Acklam under 9s played host to Seaton Carew this week and played two games
against their opposition. In the first game Acklam came out with
determination to end the season on a high and an excellent team performance
resulted in a six tries to three victory. Shane Hammond, Thomas Pemberton
and Daniel Parmer were on the score sheet with well worked tries and a
special mention must go to Haroon Malik who gamely volunteered to play for
Seaton and produced a great performance for the visitors. In the second game
Acklam let the standard slip and lost four tries to three but it didn't put
the dampers on what were two excellent games of rugby played in good spirit.

U15's Report.

Under 15’s Competition at Darlington 15/04/07

Seven teams entered this competition each playing for 14 minuets seven each way with one minuet break.  Competitors coming from+ Acklam, Barnsley, Aspatria (Lake District),Penrith, Blaydon, York and Northern(not sure where they came from).

Acklam drew their first game (0-0) against Barnsley.  Both teams played some good competitive rugby.  Our lads put in some good tackles; both defending and attacking were good with lads coming together as a team well.

Aspatria was our second opponents and they produced some good rugby.  They gave our lads a good run and came out on top taking the game 12-0.
The lads were able to have a well-earned rest for 15 mins after this game.

Penrith was our third team and we were on a very uneven field mostly uphill.  The Penrith lads came at Acklam aggressively and ready for a battle. Acklam responded well with Ben Pearson getting a well-deserved try (unconverted).  Sean Bennett gave Acklam a further 3 points with an excellent penalty kick.8-0

York had a strong well-disciplined team and this reflected in the results (they were running away with the comp at this stage).  Our lads found this game tough but didn’t give up.  They bonded together and played some good rugby but unfortunately York were the better side and took the game 19-0.

Blaydon beat Acklam 10-0 in our next battle.  The lads produced some good tackle but once again lack of concentration and believe lost them this one.  Blaydon have met Acklam a few time in the past so we knew what they were capable of.  The lads tried hard but must keep up the pressure, which at times they did with gusto.

Northern were our last match opponents.  The lads had had a long hard day and both teams at time showed this in the play.  Acklam at time looked very tired and could not muster any extra effort.  Northern did manage this and took the game 24-0

York won the comp.

This was a good day today and if Darlington ask for feed back please let them know that the people who organised today deserve a pat on the back the score board was kept up to date and everyone knew were and when they had to be were.  They even managed to get the good weather not an easy task!

U14's Report.

 Acklam 46 - 5 Durham

The sun shone, the ground was hard, but both sides went through the game with spirit and played as hard as the ground with Acklam winning 46-5. Tries came from Ben Dickinson, Lloyd Rook, Gordon Brudenell, Jason Harrison, James Howard and Chris Nicholson (u13's thanks Gavin) who scored two tries.
Overall a good game under hard circumstances, Durham looked a better side than earlier in the season and never gave up. A good game for the lads to get back into rugby after a lay off.

U12's Report.

 Acklam lost to West Hartlepool

Acklam Under 12's experienced their first game on a full pitch with 15 a-side. There were players missing, the ground was hard, the sun shone producing unseasonable heat and they lost. They will remember this game against West for other reasons, first and foremost you must tackle. West had two fast runners who were strong and they did the damage as West scored 6 tries. Acklam scored 2 tries with Josh Sayer getting a brace. Josh second try was the best of the game as Joe Harrison picked up at No 8 and gained good ground before passing to stand-off Ricky Scott who then took it on before passing out to the outside centre Josh Sayer.
Acklam Under 12's need to increase their squad size, therefore new players are very welcome.

U13's Report.

Blaydon 26 – 19 Acklam

Acklam U13s made a trip up the A1 to face a strong Blaydon side. After making their way through the car boot sale taking place in the grounds, Acklam started well with Ryan Kirkbride and Rory Smith commanding the centre of the field. This enabled Josh Clough to use his speed up the wing to score his first try of the day. An eventful first half saw Blaydon scoring a converted try and Tom Clarke converting Josh Clough’s second try. Unfortunately, it also saw a Blaydon player having to leave the pitch for treatment to a suspected broken collar bone and Jake Lambert managing to knock himself out cold after a superb tackle on the wing. The ref. decided this would be a good time to blow for half time! Jake was rested second half as a precautionary measure despite wanting to get back on the pitch, after regaining consciousness, to help his teammates. After the restart, Acklam increased their lead with Josh Clough managing to score his hat trick (again converted by Tom Clarke.) Blaydon, however, did not give up and continued to battle on, managing to score three further tries (two of which were converted). Although the result was a loss, the Acklam lads left the pitch happy knowing that they had played a good game of rugby, as a team. Well done lads!

U12's Report.

Acklam 12 v 21 Thirsk

Thirsk were two players short, so Acklam lent them one and played 12 a-side instead of 13 a-side. Acklam opened the scoring with a good passage of play which saw Josh Sayer go over in the corner.

The game was even, but Thirsk managed to score two tries before half-time.

After the break, the Thirsk pack was struggling against a stronger Acklam pack, so the referee went to uncontested. Acklam exerted a great deal of pressure but the Thirsk defence was very good. A try by each team, Peter Martin scoring for Acklam, saw the game end 12-21.

Special mention to Ryan Blyth (St. Davids) who had an outstanding game.

U10's Report.

Acklam Won 1 match drew one v Thirsk

Acklam travelled to Thirsk having been beaten in previous weeks by much bigger opposition, feeling confident as they have been improving and playing much better as a unit. They didn't disappoint and opened the scoring through Jordan Usher. Bradley Gator who was man of the match scored Acklam's second with a fine passage of play that saw the ball passed from left to right to score in the corner. Thirsk hit back with a well worked try of their own to leave the second half any-ones game. Some good tackling by the ever-reliable Sebi Conners ensured Acklams line went unbreached and Zak Perera made the game safe when he broke through from a rolling maul to touch down. A much improved side that were comprehensively beaten by Thirsk earlier in the season well done.

In the second game against the same opposition Acklam changed all the personnel as is the strength in depth and started slowly as Thirsk quickly ran in 3 try's without reply at half time Acklam made a few changes and started to get back into the game as Sam Ashton snipping run from a scrum saw him cross the line. Inspired by this Jordan Usher began to play much better and soon cross the line for his second try of the day, with time running out Acklam managed to break Thirsks stout defensive line and Ricky Conner passed to Shane Hamond who side stepped his way over the line to end the match 3-3 Thirsk were without a few of there more inspirational players which will make next seasons game more interesting.

U12's Report.

Durham County Cup Competition

Acklam Under 12's were invited to the Durham County Cup and they performed extremely well. They were drawn against Darlington Ba Ba's in their first game and won comfortably 28-0. Try scorers were James Wilson (St. David's), Jordan Mullen (Kings Manor), Peter Martin (St. David's) and Josh Sayer (Stokesley). The last try was good because the ball went through the hands along the line with Jordan Mullen passing out of the tackle to Josh Sayer.

Second game Acklam were caught cold in the first minute to Westoe. After this score Acklam had the better of the game but were unable to convert the pressure into points. Westoe 7 Acklam 0.

Third game was against the tournament winners Darlington. Acklam found themselves two tries down in the first three minutes, but after that Acklam more than competed and could have scored, there was no further scores. Darlington 14 Acklam 0.

U9's Report.

Durham County Cup Competition

Acklam under 9's had a really hard match today against a much bigger Horden side there was some good individual stuff especially from Shane Hammond and Tom Dawson but Horden have been together much longer and stole the ball every time an Acklam player got isolated.  Sebi Conners had a good game making an extra yard every time he took the ball on and Haroon Malik (two years every ones junior) never knows when to give up. Acklam are heading in the right direction and starting to understand the game much better. New player Bradley Gator shows glimpses of potential and will learn quickly from Tom Pemberton, numbers are healthy but if you are aged 8 or above and would like to learn rugby please turn up at Acklam rugby club Tuesday 6 p.m. well done Acklam

Match Reports Sunday March 18th

U13's Report.

 Acklam 10 v 19 Horden

A very tight, physical game that received positive comments from both sets of coaches, especially the superb tackling from Jake Lambert at full back. Both teams played well with Horden just managing to edge ahead in the second half.

U12's Report.

 Acklam 14 v 21 Billingham

Acklam Under 12's lost to-day 14-21 to Billingham in what was an excellent performance by the Acklam lads. Earlier in the season Acklam lost to Billingham quite heavily as the team had just been formed and Billingham had been playing for several seasons.
Acklam had the wind advantage in the first half and they put Billingham under a great deal of pressure. Peter Martin opened the scoring for Acklam and Ricky Scott converted. Billingham equalised but Dominic Breeze scored the try of the match with a dazzling 30m run, outstripping the defence. Acklam deservedly lead at HT 14-7. The second half continued with both teams pressing for the win, unfortunately for Acklam, Billingham pipped it at the end. Promising debuts for Aaron Matthews (Acklam Grange) and Josh Sayer (Stokesley)

Match Reports Sunday March 11th

U15's Report.

West Hartlepool 56 v 0 Acklam

Quite a bad result today but in all fairness there were times when Acklam had the upper hand. Taking nothing away from West they played well and at times had our lads as spectators! This is a game they put down to experience and use it as a learning curve.

U14's Report.

Acklam 24 v 5 West Hartlepool

Acklam started the better and put West under pressure winning a scrum against the head on West's 5m line allowing Liam McIvor (scrum half) to nip round blind side and score. The second try again came from a scrum on West’s 5m line with Gordon Brudenell (no 8) picking up and charging over (con James Howard). West hit back with a try to end the half 12-5.
West scored early in the second half but Acklam hit back with Liam Cochran charging through to score (con James Howard). Then excellent forward play with players picking up and going allowed Mathew Stockell to score to end the game 24-10 to Acklam

U13's Report.

Consett 5 – 82 Acklam

Acklam U13s bounced back in spectacular fashion from their Yorkshire Plate exit last week beating Consett 82 – 5. Acklam took control of the game from the kick off with Jesse Clarke opening the scoring for Acklam (converted by Tom Clarke). Chris Nicholson followed quickly with his first try of the day and then Josh Clough made a superb run from the half way line to touch down for Acklam’s third. Jesse Clarke then got his second try before Chris Nicholson managed his second, again converted by Tom Clarke. After the break, Acklam stepped up a gear and put on a fantastic display of teamwork. Two tries from Chris Nicholson, two from Adam Nixon, another from Josh Clough and individual efforts from Tom Clarke, Rory Smith, Nico McCutcheon and Tom Finley (with conversions by Tom Clarke, Jesse Clarke and Ryan Kirkbride) meant that Acklam finished the match scoring tremendous 82 points. Credit must be given to both teams for the good spirit in which the match was played. Consett did not let their heads go down once and managed a consolation try from Jordan Little just before full time.

.U12s Report.

Acklam 21 v 0 Hartlepool Rovers

Acklam Under 12's entertained Rovers this morning and won 21-0. Acklam controlled the game for the most part and deserved the win. Richard Martin (2nd Row)and Lewis Catterick(i/c) scored the first half tries and Ricky Scott (f/h) scored the third try in the second half, Ricky converted all three.

Joe Harrison (St David's) at No 8 had his debut and showed promise andDaniel Palmer (Nunthorpe) showed more confidence in his game.

U9's Report.

Acklam 5 tries v 3 tries Hartlepool Rovers

Acklam entertained Hartlepool Rovers in a cracking game. Rovers were the victors winning 5 try's to 3. Acklams first half performance was outstanding, Haroon Malik and Callum Jones showed the rest of the team how to tackle; Sebi Conners grabbed himself a brace of try's and Shane Hammond chipped in with the other. Tom Pemberton and Callum Neeve both had fine games. Acklam's ball retention has improved over the past few weeks and if Rovers persistent handling on the floor had been punished Acklam could have seen the game off early on. Both teams played some fine rugby; well done to both sides

Match Reports Sunday March 4th

U15's Report.

ACKLAM 15 v 5 RIPON

Ripon arrived at Acklam with a depleted team (three players short).

Acklam started very strong and worked as a team from the off.  This strong start paid off with a Paul Whisson try.  Whisson broke away down the wing and placed the ball in-between the posts.  A good kick from Bennett was cruelly taken away by a strong wind.  Both Acklam and Ripon’s lads produced some good rugby with Ben Forbes getting Acklam’s second try with a good run down the wing this time placing the ball at the corner post. Unconverted. Ripon were determined to gain an advantage and gave everything they could.  This paid off and Joe Turner gave Ripon their one and only try.  Unconverted.

After the half time whistle Acklam replaced the three loaned lads on Ripon’s team thus giving each Acklam player a chance to play for his own team.  The teams were evenly match for a while in this half but Acklam got the better of Ripon and pushed forward with more determination.  Shaun Armstrong gave Acklam their third try again unconverted.  Ripon pushed at Acklam trying very hard to break through but Acklam held their line with some good tackles.  The score remained 15 – 5 till the final whistle

U14's Report.

RIPON 22 - 12 ACKLAM

Acklam went to Ripon and started well with good pressure from the kick off, and numbers hassling the Ripon backs resulted in a quick pick up and try for Liam McIvor (con James Howard). The game started in earnest then and the Acklam tactic of trying to stop Ripon’s fast backs from running by putting pressure on them was working well, but Ripon hit Acklam with 2 tries both conceded despite Acklam defending stoutly on their own try line. The first half ended Ripon 10 Acklam 7.

The second half started with Acklam pushing forward and they got an early try through Lloyd Rook (no con). Tthe game then saw some good rugby with both sides fighting for everything and defending strongly but as Acklam tired Ripon ran in 2 more tries (1 con). The game ended Ripon 22 Acklam 12 which was an excellent result as Ripon beat Acklam 47-7 last time we met. All the lads gave everything they had and the game of rugby won on the day as spectators remarked from both sides on what a good game they saw and Ripon’s coach as said Acklam are welcome anytime.

U13's Report.

LEODENSIANS 15 - 12 ACKLAM

Yorkshire Plate Semi-final – Under 13s

The Under 13s had another long journey today to face a Leeds team in the semi-final of the Yorkshire Plate. The first half saw Leos take control from the outset. They kept in their positions, played good, tactical rugby and as a result scored three unconverted tries. Acklam realised after the break that they had a lot to do and began to pick up their pace. Chris Nicholson was able to grab two tries, one of which was converted by Tom Clarke, but this proved to be too little, too late. The Acklam boys were left with nothing for their efforts, as Leos celebrated securing their well-deserved place in the final.

U15's Report.

ACKLAM 10 v 0 HOUGHTON

The last time these two teams met it was in the final of the Houghton Festival Plate Competition 2006; Acklam went on to win. Both teams had something to play for today but once again Acklam came out on top.

This was not an easy victory for the home side as they had to play hard and fast but most of all they had to be organised. Tom Frances scored the first try from a scrum, he pulled a good dummy dodging the last man to gain the five points; unconverted.
Houghton fought hard pushing Acklam but with some good tackling and passing down the line. Acklam gained their second try through Ben Forbes when Frances picked up from the scrum, popped the ball to Docherty who intern passed the ball to Forbes gaining full advantage of the overlap. Unconverted.
After the change over at halftime both teams produced some good rugby. All in all it was an evenly matched game. Fortunately for the home side they managed to gain the lead in the first half and Houghton couldn’t break through in the second.

U13's Report.

Under 13's played a 3 way tournament with Billingham and Sunderland

Acklam 28 - 5 Billingham

A fast, very physical game played with passion from both sides. Chris Nicholson scored a good opening try for Acklam but Billingham were able to respond to it quickly. Josh Clough, again having an outstanding game, sprinted from the half way line to score Acklam’s second try. Acklam worked well as a team, strong forwards and fast backs to enable Chris Nicholson to score a further two tries. Tom Clarke kicked superbly throughout the match to score all of Acklam’s conversions.

Acklam 5 – 15 Sunderland

The second match for the boys told a different story. Despite a good start, Acklam quickly found themselves three tries down. This was too far for the boys to claw back from. Rory Smith managed to score an impressive try by sheer determination but the final score remained 5 –15.

U12's Report.

Result : Guisborough beat Acklam

Acklam Under 12's have had very close games all season, won some ,lost some, to-day Guisborough won by a comfortable score. Guisborough have been playing as many years as Acklam have played months, however this was a very competitive game which both teams enjoyed.
Kieron Walker (St. David's)at hooker is proving to be a character both on and off the pitch, every team needs one! James Wilson (St. David's) at scrum half had his best game so far. Ryan Blyth (St. David's) has only played 3 games on the wing, but is showing good attitude. Adam Dickenson (Macmillan) is doing well in the centre with some stern defence.

U9's Report.

Result : Guisborough 4 tries 0 Acklam

Acklam's under 9's played an experienced Guisborough side and showed a lot of character Guisborough won by 4 try's to nil but Acklam never gave up Shane Hammond & Harrobe Malik put in the best tackle counts Alicia Parry & Jack Wellard were Acklam’s best ball carriers while Callum Neeve had his best game so far at fly half Daniel Davey playing in his first game showed some promising raw talent. Captain Thomas Pemberton will win more games than he losses when the team gain that experience well done

U13's Report.

Acklam U13s went to Guisborough today and despite a fast-paced, physical game, left victorious, beating the home side 0-31. Chris Nicholson opened the scoring for Acklam with an early try, which was converted by Tom Clarke. U13's Report.

Result : Middlesbrough 5 - 29 Acklam

A quick start by Acklam meant an early try from Nick Grubb. Chris Nicholson then completed a fantastic 60-yard sprint to score his first try of the match, which was converted by Tom Clarke. This seemed to wake up the Middlesbrough side who responded quickly with an unconverted try. Acklam then proceeded to play well as a team, supporting each other up field to allow Chris Nicholson to score once more just before the whistle signalled the half was over. After a well-deserved break, Adam Gill touched the ball down for Acklam with Tom Clarke once again converting well. Acklam spent much of the half soaking up pressure from Middlesbrough, but defended well and as a result, prevented them from scoring. Acklam finished the game with a final try from Chris Nicholson. A well-deserved 29 – 5 win for the Acklam boys.

Match Reports Sunday February 4th

U13's Report.

Result : Acklam 56 - 5 Whitby

Acklam U13s once again put on a superb display of camaraderie to enable them to beat a struggling Whitby side for the third time this season. The boys are currently playing superbly as a team and results are proving that rugby really is a team game. Chris Nicholson opened the scoring for Acklam with a quick try, which was converted well by Tom Clarke. Whitby replied almost immediately with an unconverted try, but then Acklam seemed to move up a gear. They prevented Whitby scoring any more throughout the rest of the game by holding tight lines and tackling well. Fast, hard running by Rory Smith and Ryan Kirkbride in the centre of the field meant the ball was mainly in the Whitby half. Nick Grubb and Josh Clough were also able to add to the score sheet by half time. Strong driving by Acklam forwards resulted in Chris Nicholson being carried over the line to score the final try of the half. (41 – 5)

The second half carried on in much the same vein, with Chris Nicholson scoring twice more and Adam Nixon getting the final try of the match. (56 – 5)

U10's Report.

Result : Acklam won 2 tries to 1

Acklam under 10s entertained near neighbours Middlesbrough and both teams showed great spirit in an entertaining close fought encounter. Acklam at last put the winter blues behind them after several recent poor performances and took the honours by two tries to one. Tries came from Jordan Turnbull and Jordan Usher but the congratulations must go to the whole team on the improved performance and in particular twins Jack and Karl Wellard who lead from the front with some great tackling.

Match Reports Sunday January 21st

U14's Report.

Result Acklam 24 - 0 Blaydon

A physical game was on the cards after the last meeting of these two sides and it was with Acklam forwards powering into the scrums, rucks and mauls that allowed Liam Cochran to burst through from half way and score (con James Howard). A good display of forward power ensued and Acklam forwards powered up field and Jason Harrison charged over to score (con James Howard). The game was tight now, until Lloyd Wilson went on a long run around everyone to score (no con). This ended the half Acklam 19 Blaydon 0

The second half saw Blaydon come out more aggressively but Acklam’s defence held firm and from good fast ball along the backs Lloyd Wilson scored in the corner(no con). Both sides battled for the ball and a good hard game was played until unfortunately a neck injury to a Blaydon forward who went to hospital by ambulance saw the game come to an early end. The score Acklam 24 Blaydon 0. A good performance forwards are working together and battling for everything backs nearly getting the hang of fast ball along the line but overall a good day for rugby.

U13's Report.

Result Thornensians 5 - 25 Acklam

After a long journey down to Doncaster to face Thornensians in the Yorkshire Plate, Acklam U13s were raring to go. An explosive start to the match saw Acklam take control of the game from the whistle with Adam Gill scoring 2 quick tries. Fast passing out from scrums meant Acklam were able to keep possession for long stretches of the match. Thornensians were able to score a consolation try just before the half time whistle after a succession of kicks moved the play down field for the first time in the half. The Acklam lads were determined not to let this one slip and despite a large, vocal home crowd managed to keep their heads screwed on to let Chris Nicholson score a hat-trick of tries during the second half meaning the final result was 5 – 25 to the visitors. A fantastic display of teamwork and positive attitudes meant a truly deserved win and place in the next round.

U12's Report.

Result Thirsk 12 - 28 Acklam

Acklam Under 12's went to Thirsk to-day and won 12 - 28, which was a good result played in the right spirit of the game. Lewis  Catterick opened the score and this capped a fine display by the fly-half. Thirsk scored a try which ended the half at 5-7 in Acklam's favour, the score reflecting the game.

In the second half two early tries by both teams, Richard Martin scored Acklam's second try which was an exceptional 60 meter run.. Acklam forwards started to dominate and Ricky Scott and Peter Martin scored two further tries, Lewis Catterick converted the four tries. This was a very good team performance, the lads were looking for their support to off load and in defence they made good tackles. Outstanding games from the twins Peter and Richard Martin. Ricky Scott as captain led by example. Adam Dickenson and James Wilson showed good improvement.

U10's Report.

Result : Acklam lost

Acklam under tens travelled to Thirsk and came up against a well organised inform side. They struggled to compete with the more physical Thirsk side in the first half conceding possession and ultimately several tries. Acklam did improve in the second half and scored tries through Sebi Connors and Zak Perera. Although Acklam lost the game there were some good individual performances with Shane Hammond especially showing the rest of the squad how to make tackles.

Result : Acklam won the North Yorkshire Bowl

Acklam U15's took part in the North Yorkshire Bowl held at Acklam Rugby Club, teams included Whitby, Middlesbrough, Selby and Ripon. The teams played in a round robin with each team playing each other for a total of 15 mins.

Acklam with a strong squad kicked off the competition by playing Whitby, with seven and a half minutes each end, Acklam needed to dominate the game and score an early try. Early in to the second period Liam Cocoran (Capt) forced his way over the line to score the only try of the game with George Wardle converting. Acklam then took a break, followed by another convincing win over Middlesbrough with Ben Pearson scoring the only try. Both Mike and Alan took advantage of the substitutes by rotating players around to secure a nil all draw against Ripon in what was a closely contested match. The pressure was now on Acklam, with two wins and a draw they went into the last match knowing they were on an equal footing to Middlesbrough in games won and drawn, but 3 points ahead. A result in this game was Acklam's only option if they wanted to beat Middlesbrough and lift the Bowl. Again the coaches selected the team, but with no tries scored in the first half, team tactics dictated a change at half time. This lead to a try scored by Shaun Armstrong, with George W. converting a crucial kick. Parents watched nervously as Middlesbrough were beating the opposition on the other pitch, however the final whistle was blown resulting in Acklam winning the competition by 3 points over Middlesbrough, their nearest contenders.

U14's Report.

Result : Acklam were second in the North Yorkshire Bowl

Acklam under 14's were up against York and Middlesbrough in the North Yorkshire Bowl. The first game against York saw Acklam off to a good start with Lloyd Wilson on a long run scoring early on. This set the tone for some good rugby with both sides giving everything and ending the half with Acklam 5-0 ahead. The second half started and both sides continued to battle for everything then a lapse from Acklam allowed York in to level the score at 5-5. Acklam continued to fight for everything but to no avail and the game ended 5-5.

The second game against Middlesbrough was a hard fought game with both sides wanting to win but it was Liam Cochran who scored after good pressure from Acklam forwards and determination from the backs. The first half ended 5-0. The second half started and Middlesbrough threw everything at Acklam but excellent defending and strong wills saw Acklam win 5-0. The forwards were very good today and key players made tackles when they were needed, overall a good day, unfortunately York won the competition as they had scored more tries. The final result, Acklam won one drew one and gave a strong performance against good opposition to finish second, but the lads were awesome and team spirit on a high.

U13's Report.

Result : Acklam lost in the North Yorkshire Cup

Acklam U13s travelled down to York today with an army of travelling supporters who braved the wind and cold to cheer the lads on in the NY Cup. Opponents today were York, Harrogate and Middlesbrough.

The first game was against Harrogate. Acklam started slowly and as a result went down 17-0. The second match the lads played was a tough game against York. Although the York side had looked remarkably strong in their match against Middlesbrough, the Acklam lads were able to open the scoring with a superb run from Chris Nicholson. Good communication and hard work from Acklam wasn’t enough to stop York scoring two tries ending in a result of 5-10. The final match Acklam played was against Middlesbrough. Both teams were up for this one resulting in some good rugby being played. Acklam were able to take the lead when Tom Clarke converted a try from Chris Nicholson, but then Middlesbrough fought back and scored an unconverted try. Chris managed to touch the ball down for another try meaning the half time score was 12-5. After the break, however, tired legs began to show and Middlesbrough were able to level the score to 12-12.

Despite not winning a match, the Acklam lads showed much improvement from this time last year, when they were a struggling team, regularly being trounced by opposing teams. If they continue to work as hard as they have over the past year, this team looks set to have successes in tournaments and cups in the future.

U10's Report.

Result : Acklam lost 6 tries to 3

This is Acklam's under 10's first game since the Christmas break. Acklam's performance today was poor in the first game; Darlington scored 2 tries before Acklam's first tackle. Things did improve as Sebi Conners scored a fine try to restore some pride, and the team started to play like they can with some fine tackling from Joe Lelley & Alicia Parry. Darlington were a much stronger side and scored a couple more tries but this time Acklam did show some resistance. Jordon Turnbull & Zak Perera both scored fine tries. Darlington won this game comfortably 6 try's to 3 in a game the players will learn from.

Result West Hartlepool 15 - 19 Acklam

Acklam went to West Hartlepool and both sides looked pretty even but it was Acklam who started the better after a few early clashes the ball broke to Lloyd Wilson who ran across the pitch and round the whole opposition team to score under the posts (con Liam McIvor). This stirred West who came straight back at Acklam and after good pressure they received a penalty and three points on the board. The game then went into a forwards battle with both sides holding their own but then a mix up and a fumble allowed West in to score(no con) to lead 8-7. A good game ensued until West Hartlepool with good hands through their backs went over to score(plus con) and end the half 15-7,

The second half started and it was Lloyd Wilson who scored a carbon copy of his first (con Liam McIvor)to make it 15-14. This half was a series of chances for both teams but stout and last ditch defending by both sides forwards working hard, as no team wanting to give an inch, then a couple of quick passes and Lloyd Wilson tore along the touchline to score in the corner for his hat trick (no con). Making for an exciting last four minutes but Acklam hung on to win 19-15 good team performance with numerous people putting in 110% all earning a well deserved break over the Xmas period.

Acklam kept themselves in the game by producing some good defending and excellent tackling from centre George Wardle. At the beginning of the second half and with the wind now behind them Acklam took full advantage enabling Liam Corcoran (captain) to gain Acklam's first try unfortunately Acklam failed to convert. With some splendid rugby being displayed by both teams Acklam managed to get a second try through George Wardle, failed to convert. Redcar pulled together and despite having the wind against them broke through the centre and gained a try. Failed conversion. Lee Harrison got a third for Acklam this time the conversion counted. Liam Corcoran tackled well but unfortunately was too late to stop Redcar getting a forth try after a strong run down the wing. Redcar failed to convert, 17-20. U13's Report.

Result Redcar 27 – 32 Acklam

This was reflected by a halftime score of 0-27. Redcar had the benefit of the wind during the second half but were unable to stop Acklam scoring one further try against the wind. Superb running from Chris Nicholson (he got all six Acklam tries) and determined teamwork from Acklam meant a good away win 27 – 32.

U12's Report.

Result Hartlepool Rovers 35 – 0 Acklam

Acklam Under 12's were brought down a peg by Hartlepool Rovers this morning, losing 35-0 (ht 14-0). Rovers were quicker to the ball and were determined to overturn their defeat to Acklam last month. U10's Report.

Acklam under 10s travelled to Hartlepool Rovers to tackle the home side as well as a visiting team from Redcar. In the first game against Rovers both teams showed great spirit and handling skills in difficult windy conditions. Rovers took the honours in the game but Acklam once again showed good signs of improvement. Playing against a team who had beaten them easily only three weeks previously they scored some great tries through strong running by Zak Perera and Sebi Connors. The second game against Redcar was just as hotly contested and the sides remained tied at two tries apiece until the final moments of the game. Camreon Hipkins scored a great try after good work by Callum Jones and Jordan Turnbull, however Redcar ended the game the victors with two well worked late tries as Acklam tired. All three teams can be pleased with their overall performances and their contribution to the day.

U14's Report.

Acklam 5 - 36 Billingham

Acklam hosted Billingham under 14's today and lost 36-5. This was not a true reflection on the game as Acklams’ forwards were very strong but the Billingham backs were a lot faster and moved the ball quicker. The score was 17-5 at half time with Liam Cochran running half the field to for Acklams score. In the second half Acklams’ forwards tired a bit and Billinghams’ backs with quick hands showed their experience. Overall it was another good team performance the lads kept going to the final whistle. 20 lads turned out today and there are more to come back so they just need to gel a bit more and overall things are looking good for the under 14’s.

U15's Report.

Result Blaydon 47 - 7 Acklam

Acklam started out bright in a match that was in no way reflected by the score line, both teams started out strong in the first 20 minutes but Acklam had a man sent off which showed on the pitch. After some considerable pressure a dummy and a jink from Blaydon's scrum half beat Acklam's defence, the conversion succeeded. Acklam held out well with 14 men but after some fantastic tackles Blaydon broke through again, conversion failed. Acklam went straight into attack from the restart but a missed tackle from one of the forwards resulted in another try for Blaydon. The conversion was taken well. Another converted try before half time meant that Acklam went in, unfairly, 24 points down.

The second half looked brighter for the away side and with a full 15 they began to attack the Blaydon line even harder. But another lapse in concentration meant that Blaydon scored again, and another conversion went between the sticks. After another try 10 minutes later the match looked like a lost cause, but Acklam, to their credit, didn't give up the fight. S/H Jack Docherty was subbed due to injury and Acklam had to borrow a player, as they travelled with the bare 15. 15 minutes from the end captain Liam Corcoran took a quick tap penalty and crashed over for Acklam’s first and only try of the game, Bennett converted from under the posts. 2 more Blaydon tries (1 converted, 1 not) still didn't dishearten the boys and a penalty 5 yards out was not made use of by Ben Pearson who, later, had a chance to put winger Ben Forbes in the clear but was tackled well. This summed up Acklam's misfortunes and meant Acklam went away-disappointed losers in a game that was not shown true by the score.

U14's Report.

Result Blaydon 5 - 36 Acklam

Acklam under 14's went to Blaydon and Acklam started the better with a quick taken penalty and good hands allowing Matty Stockell (no 8) to score in the corner. From the kick off Acklam made good headway up field to get a scrum on Blaydon 5m line and Matty Stockell (no 8) picked up and charged over to score again.  Acklam were now playing well and charged up field with good rucking and mauling leaving Jonathan Hoole (flanker) to power over to score.  Acklam now in command and after more good rucking, Liam McIvor (scrum half) picked up from a ruck and spotted a big gap in the middle of the park and charged through to score (con James Howard.) Acklam now taking control and the next try was a carbon copy of the 3rd try but with Jason Harrison(2nd row) charging over to score(con James Howard) then Blaydon had a line out on there own 5m line and Matty Stockell(no 8) caught and powered over for his hat-trick(con James Howard) To end the half Blaydon 0 Acklam 36.

The second half saw some changes on the Blaydon side and Blaydon scored early on then the game started to get physical with some bad tackles but Acklam stood up to the challenge and played through the half with grit, determination and excellent self discipline showing good standards for our club to end the game Blaydon 5 Acklam 36

U13's Report.

Result Acklam 20 - 15 Blaydon

Acklam U13s had to work hard throughout the entire match to secure a win against a good team from Blaydon. Acklam started well, with Chris Nicholson scoring a try within the first 2 minutes (5-0). Blaydon bounced straight back to level and then increased their lead (5-10). Good passing from Acklam meant Chris was able to touch down to bring the scores level again (10-10). Acklam continued to communicate well and superb teamwork from the boys meant Omar Hussain was able to put the home side into the lead again (15-10). This was followed by an outstanding solo effort from Chris, running the full length of the pitch to increase the pressure from Acklam (20-10). Blaydon, however, did not give up and were able to score another try before the final whistle. Acklam U13s are working well together and with the commitment being shown from the boys, all bodes well for the future of this team.

U12's Report.

Result Acklam  17 - 17 Mowden Park

Acklam Under 12's hosted Mowden Park and were held to a 17 - 17 draw with the last phase of play in the game. Acklam's lack of experience meant the penalty count was very one sided against them, but hopefully they will of learnt by their mistakes. Besides that it was an excellent performance against a more experienced team. Jordan Mullen (Kings Manor) and Peter Martin (St David's) who scored two tries were the try scorers, with Lewis Catterick (St David's) converting one. Harvey Smith at hooker had another fine game.

U10's Report.

Result Acklam  20 - 30 Mowden Park

Acklam under 10s entertained a strong Mowden Park team. In a closely fought first half, honours were even at two tries apiece. Strong running from Rob Wears and Zak Pederor resulted in two good tries for Acklam however a very experienced Mowden team came back into the game with  tries being created by a powerful set of forwards. The second half saw Mowden take control and although Rob Wears capped an excellent game with his second try, Mowden went on to win the game by six tries to four.

U9's Report.

Acklam turned out a Under 9's for the very first time.

Acklam U9's drew with Mowden Park and lost to Billingham. Shane Hammonds had a excellent game. The boys are enjoying themselves and new players are welcome.

    U14's Report.

    Result Acklam  27 - 0 Gateshead

Acklam played hosts to Gateshead but unfortunately Gateshead’s prop couldn’t start so scrums were uncontested which was a shame as both sides had good forwards as the game showed. Acklam were straight out of the blocks and good passing allowed Lloyd Wilson to run in for an early try. It was end to end until Adie Ngunga flew down the wing and to touch down under the posts (con James Howard) for a 12-0 lead. Then Liam Cochran charged over for a half time score of Acklam 17 Gateshead 0.

Gateshead came out with heads high and passion flowing, putting Acklam under pressure, but good defending by Acklam and then good attacking play let Liam Cochran with a cheeky kick and determination in to score his second try. Then to finish off Lloyd Wilson ran in for his second to finish the game Acklam 27-0 Gateshead. Good rugby by both sides, Gateshead never let their heads go down showing great courage and resilience. A big thank you to the Acklam players who played for Gateshead even pulling off a try scoring tackle.

Result   Ilkley  5 - 10 Acklam

Report by Jo Thompson

Acklam had a good safe trip down to Ilkley thanks to Paul Pearson and his sat nav. We were given a warm welcome by the home team with some excellent hospitality the bacon and sausage buns were done to perfection! Tea nice and strong and the coffee were wonderful too. The game was a hard fought battle between two strong team that both looked as if they wanted to win unfortunately our lads didn't manage it this time. I have been asked to mention our wonderful water boys and line judges (Alex and Andrew T) both on the sideline due to injuries. Barbara Readman was wonderful as ever running on and off the pitch with our much needed 1st Aid kit (the magic spray). Both teams gave a round Well-Done Tunnel at the end of the game and enjoyed lasagne and chips afterwards in a very comfortable clubhouse. Glad to report all arrived safely back at Acklam. Bet you never thought you'd get a match report like this one. However as Andrew was on the sideline he has kindly wrote me this report for you.

Report by Andrew Thompson

In today’s Yorkshire Plate game Acklam were unfortunate to loose to a well-drilled Ilkley side and show good grit and determination through out. Ilkley took the lead via a smash through try from 5 yards out after a well contested first 20 minutes the conversion failed. This spurred Acklam on and they produced good ball from the forwards but pressure from the Ilkley backs meant that this came largely to nothing. After some good quick play from Acklam's forwards Ilkley stole the ball and cleared down field, captain, Liam Corcoran collected the ball 10 yards inside his own half and went on a surging run resulting in a well deserved try in the corner. Wardle failed to convert a difficult kick. In the second half pressure from the away side continued, however after a good period of attacking from Ilkley they beat the winger and got over the line for a second try. This gave a wake up call for Acklam and they began to attack ferociously, Jack Docherty broke through the ranks but didn't have the legs to score. Ilkley were quick to clear with the boot and made a few breaks, but good defence provided Acklam with a chance of a result. However, Ilkley stayed tight in defence and Acklam went away losers in a tight game that could have easily gone either way. Charlie Smith deserves a mention for some excellent tackles and a few strong runs. Acklam will be hoping to carry this good form on all season and get some more wins under their more than able belts.

By half time, Chris Nicholson had scored a further two tries; an excellent run by Nick Grubb and another conversion by Tom Clarke meant Acklam were leading 31 – 0. The second half continued to be controlled by Acklam. Adam Nixon was outstanding as captain, leading by example from the front and Ryan Kirkbride had his best match of the season so far. Three more tries from Tom Clarke, Chris Nicholson and Jake Lambert meant that the final result was 46 – 0. This was a superb display of camaraderie from all of the Acklam players resulting in a well-deserved win.

The under 15's played Whitby in a re-arranged game after Whitby could only bring 9 players due to half term. However this was a good exercise for the coaches to experiment with players in new positions and the lads enjoyed the game

Result  Acklam  45 - 5 Middlesbrough

ACKLAM Under 13's followed up from their 38-5 win against Ripon last week to beat Middlesbrough in the local derby 45-5. Acklam dominated throughout the game as the scoreline suggests. The try scorers were Umran x2 tries, Chris Nicholson x4 tries, Tom Clarke x1 try and Tom converted 5. U12's Report.

ACKLAM Under 12's who have only been together as a team for 3 weeks, put up a brave performance against an experienced Billingham team who have played together for 5 years. Results do not matter at this stage of the team development as it is all about performance and learning quickly to be able to compete. Ryan Rahman (St David’s) did very well on his first game of rugby. Dominic Breeze ( Newland's) is an inspiration to his team, well done Dominic.

U10's Report.

ACKLAM U10's who are newly formed this season put up a brave performance against Billingham and they scored several tries, not as many as Billingham, but showed enough that they will develop into a useful outfit.

There must of been nearly 300 lads playing rugby at Acklam this morning and with the weather being kind everyone had a great day. The teams taking part in the Tournament ranged from Under 10's up to Under 14's.
Acklam, Selby and M'bro formed the trio of teams for the U12's tournament.
In the first game Acklam played Selby and lost 20-0, but the scoreline does not reflect the closeness of the game. Selby had been playing together for 3 years and Acklam team was only formed 2 weeks ago but lack of experience was made up by plenty of endeavour. The second game M'bro lost to Selby 15-10 after being 10 -0 up in the early stages of the game.

The third game was a typical derby between Acklam and M'bro and surprisingly Acklam went 10-0 up in the first half, only for M'bro to pull it back to 10-10. In the second half Acklam took the lead again only for M'bro to level the score toward the end. Both teams tackled well and there was plenty of scoring opportunities from both teams so this was a fair result.

Special mentions for Dominic Breeze ( Newlands) who was the smallest player on the field, but he showed excellent defensive and attacking options. Ricky Scott (Newlands) must have won the tackle count for the competition. Shaun Jones (Ormesby), Sam McManus (Macmillan), Stefan de Zou (Macmillan) and the Martin twins (St David's) were all outstanding as were all the team.

U13's Report.

Result  Acklam  38 - 0 Ripon

The game started with a Ripon kick off. The ball went straight into Chris Nicholsons hands who ran about 3 quarters of the pitch and through a few tackles for the first of Acklams tries. The game had some good tackling, rucking and mauling from both teams, but a few missed tackles from the visitors allowed Chris Nicholson to run through for a second try. This was a carbon copy for the third try, again scored by Mr Nicholson the open side flanker, who is on a roll at the moment. The next ten minutes resulted in a lot of close quarter’s play until half time.

The second half started with Acklam kicking off and straight into the attack after a few mistakes from the visitors. This again resulted in a try for Chris Nicholson. Ripon came back on the attack for the next ten minutes but for excellent tackling from captain Adam Nixon and No. 8 Nick Grubb they may have scored, however through great turn over ball Nicholson went over the line again for his fifth try of the game. The last try of the game came again from Acklam, however this time from Louis Fairburn who celebrated his birthday with some great support play and ending in 5 more points to the home side. Result Hartlepool Rovers 22 - 10 Acklam

Acklam went to Hartlepool Rovers and from the off found it difficult as a much larger and stronger rovers pack stamped their authority on the game with 2 quick tries. Acklam dug in and with good hands and fast ball scored a try from Lloyd Wilson. At the restart Rovers hit back and some poor defending allowed them to score two more tries. The second half started and both sides showing grit and determination in attack and defence made for some good rugby . Result Guisborough 0 - 10 Acklam

Acklam 15's won a hard fought game morning against Guisborough, winning 0-10. Last week Acklam lost 0-5 to Durham City which indicates from these two results that they are a very competitive team. Both teams defended very well so there is a massive improvement in the Acklam team when it comes to making the vital tackles. The first 10 mins Acklam pressurised the home team line without any success, although they went over in the corner but the ball was knocked on when trying to ground the ball. Then followed some Guisborough pressure but they failed to score. After 25 mins Acklam won the ball from a scrum 40m out and spread the ball wide and again just failed to score in the corner. Shortly afterwards S/H Jack Doherty scored a try, conversion failed.Second half continued with both teams trying hard to break down the opposition defence, Acklam scored a second try to win the game 0-10. Excellent games from Michael Walker at hooker and Jack Doherty S/H. Ross Morgan had a solid game at fullback and Jamie Kirk did well at prop.
